Managing Growth

Rents and values continue to ascend on a trajectory that, according to economists, should last for quite a few years. In this environment, the question isn’t whether rents will rise but how far can you push them? This session will zero-in on ways to run your properties more efficiently and effectively, from identifying the next generation of amenities and services, to leveraging technology, both in the corporate office and the leasing office, to boost NOI and attract and retain more renters.
Capital Ideas
9:00–10:00 am | Cascade Ballroom
Private-sector lenders, like banks, life insurance companies, and conduits are emerging from the shadows and giving the GSEs a run for their money. Interest rates are at historic lows, and return expectations on equity continue to fall. Where is the smart money investing today? How are underwriting strategies on acquisition and development deals evolving? This session picks the brains of some of the industry’s top financiers to gauge the opportunities and risks inherent in today’s capital markets.

The multifamily industry is soaring to new heights, as rents and occupancies continue to grow. But how can you make this momentum last? And as your bottom line improves, so too does the competition, meaning it’s never been more important to differentiate yourself. This lively, moderated power panel will pick the brains of some of the industry’s top CEOs to examine what informs their strategic planning; where they’re finding the most success; how the opportunities found in this cycle differ from previous cycles; and ultimately, how they’re marshaling their forces and leading their companies forward to new heights.
Under Construction
9:00–10:00 am | Cascade Ballroom
After several years of muted development activity, the industry has amped up its pipeline, and then some. While the multifamily world as a whole remains perennially undersupplied, some core markets are already starting to overheat. So, what secondary markets are primed to be the next hot ticket? Where are developers finding the best development and acq-rehab yields? And more to the point, where are developers finding the capital to turn their visions into reality? The answers from this panel of builders may surprise you.
